McMullan & Associates provided structural engineering design development, construction documents and construction administration services for this new 61,400 SF ten level structure.

Our work included the preservation and stabilization of the existing 4 level façade of the historic circa 1868 Murray Building, and re-attached the façade to the new ten level structure. The façade columns were supported on temporary bracing, then the brick pier below the cast iron façade columns were removed. Also, a new 7,400 SF cellar level tunnel was constructed that connected to the existing AARP building. Construction Cost $12 million. In an article on December 4, 2003, the Washington Post wrote, “Magical is a word one is tempted to use for the entire project.”
