McMullan Project for GMU Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall Receives Fairfax County Design Honor Award

Fairfax County formally announced their 2019 James M. Scott Exceptional Design Award Recipients with George Mason University’s Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall receiving the Honor Award for Institutional.

Designed by architect, Perkins Eastman, McMullan collaborated to provide the complementing structural engineering services for this new state-of-the-art facility.

The Design Jury’s comments for the award stated, “Considered a flagship for George Mason University, the Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall was designed with an understanding of the impact of this facility on the image of the campus, expressing GMU’s commitment to sustainability, student accommodations, community outreach and visual design. The building integrates the language of the campus, blends in well, and successfully combines the master plan guidelines. The strong indoor/outdoor connection provides for intentional social connections, knitting site and pedestrian access to the campus. This environmentally responsible building incorporates green building practices well, accomplishing the University’s mission to promote sustainability and healthy living. The jury would like to encourage this quality of building and awarded it an Honor Award.”
