McMullan Project for Poff Federal Building Receives ICRI Award of Merit

In closing out 2019, the International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI), released the winners for their annual project awards. Concrete Protection & Restoration (CPR) in Baltimore, Maryland — a subcontractor to Hoar Construction, LLC — was awarded the ICRI Award of Merit, Parking Structures Category for their work in providing repairs for the Poff Federal Building in Roanoke, Virginia.

Collaborating with MTFA Architecture for GSA on design, McMullan provided structural engineering services to replace the severely deteriorated East and West brick facades of this federal building along with repairs in its two-level parking garage. A key factor in minimizing the noise and vibration of this work was the design team’s specification for hydro-demolition to remove deteriorated concrete. Additional details of CPR’s award-winning efforts can be found on page 50 of ICRI’s Construction Repair Bulletin (November/December 2019 edition).

This project is one of many throughout the Greater Washington Metropolitan region for which McMullan has been tapped for its structural expertise to investigate and recommend/design repairs to stabilize structures, facades, parking garages, and more comprising various materials such as granite, limestone, brick, concrete, and more.
