Frances Perkins Building (DOL) Garage Repairs

This multi-story, reinforced concrete building was constructed in the late 1960s to early 1970s. Owned by the General Services Administration, it serves as the Department of Labor headquarters. Two garages -- north and south -- have entrances off 3rd Street NW and are located to the west of the I-395 highway tunnel. The third “east” garage has its main entrance on a remnant of Indiana Avenue west of 1st Street NW and is located to the east of the highway tunnel. Combined, the three parking garages total 310,000 SF.

Over the years, the garages have been repaired numerous times using a minimal, first cost approach of cut-and-patch. This project adopted a similar approach to its ongoing concrete deterioration, yet it also included extensive repairs and replacement piping to the garage drainage system to stem significant underground water leaks.
