The Sir Christopher Wren Building Structural Investigation

The renewal of the nation's "oldest college building that is still standing" involved the structural investigation of numerous vertical cracks in the original exterior brick masonry walls as well as an evaluation of the structural steel frame within the original masonry wall construction. We determined the cause of cracking and investigated the strength of the existing Chapel floor – a major tourist attraction – and exterior balconies. We also assisted in determining the cause of brick deterioration throughout below grade walls and evaluating existing foundations. The Chapel and Great Hall are used for ceremonial and reception functions. Property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and officially recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
