National Building Museum Earthquake Evaluation

During the 2011 earthquake, building occupants witnessed significant movement of a number of structural elements, including the large columns supporting the Main Hall and members of the trusses carrying the hall roofs. The earthquake caused structural damage to masonry walls including the historic plaster finishes at several locations throughout the structure. McMullan was tasked with providing an immediate rapid evaluation to determine if the building was safe to occupy. GSA then requested a more detailed survey of the masonry and plaster along with construction documents to repair the plastered brick arches and infill walls, together with the brick piers supporting the roof trusses. Property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and officially recognized as a National Historic Landmark.
